The Omega Class Destroyers are the backbone of Earth Force, the Earth Alliance military. They were the first new ship class to be designed and built after the disastrous Minbari war, based on the Nova Class, and they incorporated much new technology. The Omega class is 1717 meters long, and it is equipped with four heavy pulse lasers, four laser cannons and twelve pulse cannons. Like most capital ships, they are not very maneuverable. There is no artificial gravity on board. Instead the middle part of the destroyer rotates to create gravity for the crew. They also carry two squadrons of Starfury or Thunderbolt fighters. The Omega Class Destroyers are of course equipped with jump-point generators.

There is also an advanced experimental version of the Omega Class. It has prototypical new bio-engineered armor, experimental new particle beam weapons, rail guns and anti-fighter gatling plasma cannons. This class of ships was the most secret development from the Earth Alliance Research & Development, using the most advanced technology they could find. The Firehawk is the only known version of this ship to survive. She is 1,720 meters in lenght, a crew of 850 and 18,000 troops. The Firehawk carries one squadron (18)of heavy Starfurys and one squadron (18) of the new Thunderbolts. These destroyers were rushed into service by President Clark because of the feared attack by the Interstellar Alliance, led by President John Sheridan. Their new gravimetric drive, in theory giving these Omegas a faster form of propulsion and limited internal gravity, new slicer beam, like the Shadow vessels, and the rail guns were not completed at the time of Commander Susan Ivanovna's attack with the White Star Fleet in December, 2261.
