The new Sol has more firepower than the heavy crusiers and more sheilding. Even more ground attack craft, more Marines and a more intense crew serve aboard the new Sol, now nicknamed the Federation "Boot".

The new Sol also has much a much thicker hull to protect the ship when the sheilds fail and is the first Starfleet vessel with a rearward firing torpedo tube and phaser bank. Sol B retired from active service to become an advanced combat simulator for cadets at Starfleet Academy.
